St. Kevin

St Kevin of GlenologhSt. Kevin is was born in Ireland and of royal descent. He was the founder of Glendalough in County Wicklow. The Feast Day of Saint Kevin is celebrated on June 3. He was baptized by the Cronan of Roscrea.

There are notable legends surrounding the life of Saint Kevin. When he was just an infant, it is said that a mysterious cow came to his parent’s home and produced milk for the baby. He spent his early years studying under St. Petroc of Cornwall and later went on to live with monks. Later in his religious life, St. Kevin lived as a hermit. He is known for surrounding himself by nature during this time.

St. Kevin is also known for serving as a great protector of animals. He died in 618 and received his canonization in 1903. Many of the St. Kevin’s miracles also involve nature and animals.
