Despite living a life of torture and seclusion brought on by her father, Saint Barbara still found ways to worship the Lord and honor the Trinity during the 4th century.
When Barbara’s father, Dioscorus, found out she had converted to Christianity secretly, he denounced her in front of the civil tribunal, tortured her and eventually became her executioner as she was beheaded. As punishment, Dioscorus was struck by a flash of lightning and was immediately hurried before the judgment seat of God. Barbara showed the world that despite facing much anger and strife in life, one can still follow the will of God.
St. Barbara’s Feast Day is December 4. Her medal features a chalice in her hand with her standing near a tower, as she is the patron saint of all firefighters, artillerymen, and anyone who works with cannons or explosives.
