St. Barnabas, who was born as Joseph, was one of the first Christian disciples in Jerusalem. Barnabas and Paul the Apostle completed missionary journeys together, succeeding at converting people to Christianity. He is mentioned in some of Paul’s epistles and came as close as anyone to being one of the 12 apostles.
St. Barnabas is venerated as the Patron Saint of Cyprus, is against hailstorms and is invoked as a peacemaker. His Feast Day is June 11. He is often seen with a Pilgrim’s staff, olive branch or holding the Gospel of St. Matthew.
