St. Brendan is the patron saint of sailors and travelers. He is legendary for his travels throughout his life, among them his journey to the “Isle of the Blessed.” He was nicknamed “the Voyager” in his lifetime and was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. Volumes upon volumes of work have been written about his legendary voyage. They give inspiration to all those who travel in this world, whether by sea or by land.
A St. Brendan medal frequently pays homage to the U.S. Navy. St. Brendan himself will usually hold a cross and be standing near a sea vessel or a representation of a boat. It is his strength in God that is most memorable as he journeyed through the world and faced many great adventures. This same strength is portrayed in the medallions that help remind us of God’s love and comfort as we travel to and from our respective destinations.
