As the founder of the Opus Dei organization, St. Josemaria Escriva promoted a teaching of the universal call to holiness during his lifes work. His organization brought together laypeople and priests, and it still continues thriving to this day. Pope John Paul II has recognized St. Josemaria Escriva as one of the great witnesses of Christ.

He was born in 1902 and ordained in the priesthood in Saragossa in 1925. In 1928, he founded the Opus Dei organization. The Opus Dei now has over 60,000 members. The feast of St. Josemaria Escriva is celebrated on June 26 every year.

In 2002, he was canonized by Pope John Paul II. His life continues to be an inspiration to laypeople who feel compelled to bring holiness into the reality of everyday life. He is considered a great example of faith for young people who are considering entrance into the seminary
