St. Veronica is recognized as the woman who felt pity upon Jesus as He carried His cross on the way to His crucifixion on Calvary. As He passed by her, she wiped away His sweat and blood with her veil. Her act of kindness was rewarded with an imprint of His face on the material. Her act is remembered today during the sixth station during the Stations of the Cross, as well as on Shrove Tuesday. The veil is kept and carefully persevered in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.
St.Veronica is depicted holding a veil with the face of Jesus imprinted on it. Because of the image that was left on her veil, St. Veronica is considered the patron saint of photographers. She has also been adopted as the patron saint of laundry workers.
